After the disappearance of his mentor, newbie cop Rook tasks himself with unraveling the mile-long mystery without a trace of evidence or reason.He and many other residents of small-town Gourmet Bay are shaken by officer Locke seemingly dropping off the face of the earth. The case has long gone cold, but Rook hangs onto hope and eventually finds himself back at the hospital where Locke was last seen....There he meets the illustrious surgeon, Sugar, and later her brilliant forensic scientist husband Spice.The hardest part about his following investigation is getting anyone to believe him, as the model husband and wife have perfect reputations. Clean slates. No witnesses.
